The Dancing Moose Difference

Montessori education focuses sound educational practices that build upon a child's knowledge with activities that are interesting and engaging. The Dancing Moose Montessori classroom is filled with beautiful materials designed to teach concrete lessons that precede abstract conceptualization.

Low Ratios

Low student-to-teacher ratios allow teachers to meet each child at his or her developmental level, encouraging and supporting each child to enjoy the learning process.  Children can maximize their potential when they receive lessons specifically suited to their interests and paced to maintain their interest.

Qualified Teachers

Every lead teacher at Dancing Moose must have a bachelor's degree in a related field or actively pursuing Montessori credential.  The credentials vary but include Montessori credentials in the toddler, early childhood and lower elementary levels from MACTE accredited programs, bachelor or master's degree with teaching licenses and bachelor degrees in a variety of areas such as early childhood education, family studies and pyschology.  All teachers also participate in the Dancing Moose professional development program entitled Rings of Knowledge which focuses on educating the whole teacher.  Class topics center around developing skills in teaching, developing leadership and taking care of yourself in classes such as self love and yoga.

 STEAM Education

Art, science and cultural studies come alive in classrooms and teachers develop authentic experiences for children around a topic of study.  Teachers work collaboratively to bring ideas on how to bring these subjects alive for children in ways they can touch, feel and connect to their own lives.  An example of this is was a heart study around Valentine's Day where children were able to see and watch a cow heart disection in comparison to a chicken heart.  Children also engage in a lifecycle unit at Easter cultivating chicken eggs to maturity.

Healthy Meals

A healthy lifestyle is at the core of our whole-child approach to education.  It is amazing how children love to eat healthy food when their friends are eating the same thing!  Our chef and assistant chef prepare healthy meals from scratch daily, including lunch, and morning and afternoon snacks.  Produce from the Dancing Moose organic garden is an important ingredient in the daily menu during the growing season.  Children also enjoy snacking on snap peas, tomatoes and chard during outside time.

 Outdoor Classroom

Outdoor education is a critical piece of our early childhood education.  Children have beautiful spaces outside to learn about the environment while engaging socially with peers.  The garden specialist works regularly with children in the Dancing Moose Community Garden at Lake Park.  Children plan, grow and harvest produce that is then used in our kitchen to serve to the children. River Park children learn about plants with the small garden plots that are located outside of each classroom.

Cultural Celebrations

Children are immersed into cultural experiences on a regular basis.  They listen to music from many places around the world and learn about celebrations.  Dancing Moose invites guests from a variety of ethnicities to share authentic cultural representations, including song and dance, food, dress, customs, and language.  Classes also celebrate leaders of peace movements, such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and Mahatma Gandhi. Our Spanish and Mandarin dual language programs also inspire children to not only learn a new language, but to love and embrace an entirely different culture.

Rigorous Curriculum

Daily curriculum incorporates a wide range of topics such as language arts, math, science, art, sensorial, practical life and circle times.  Children work at their own pace and choose to work on materials that capture their interest.  Children's love for learning is cultivated through independent work.  Teachers give purposeful lessons then step back to allow a child to struggle through the learning process.  This struggle is what teaches children how to think critically and to feel true pride and satisfaction when an activity is completed.  Teachers are standing by to repeat lessons as needed but do so in a way that builds confidence and enticement to try again.

Extracurricular Programs

Every child enrolled in full-day programs has the opportunity to participate in speciality classes such as yoga, dance, karate, music and games.  The variety offered allows children to experience a wide range of interesting classes while developing gross motor skills.  If a child has a particular interest in an extracurricular area, that child can participate in a Moose Boost after-school program.  These classes include STEM, dance, music, violin, cartoon book making, cooking, sports, language, and mad science.  Children have a variety of choices for educational enrichment during their after-school schedule.

Parent Data and Reviews

What Our Parents Say

  • Jamie & Ken B:  We love that all the teachers and administrators are always smiling and positive - it sets the stage for a great learning environment for our child and let's us know that they truly care about all the children.

  • Keith W:  Moving here from the east coast, we were concerned about finding the proper level of education for our daughter. Dancing Moose was just opening and when we did our tour, Dr. Joyce impressed me with her professionalism, enthusiasm, and academic prowess. We started our daughter in the toddler class and never looked back. Now, four years later we have both our children in Dancing Moose and could not be more pleased. Not only is the education second to none, and I would apply that not to only Utah, but the entire country, the family atmosphere is phenomenal. I would recommend Dancing Moose to all toddler to 2nd grade children.  I can not understand why anybody would go anywhere else.

  • Alexis J:  Aislynn loves going to school at Dancing Moose, she's excited every day to tell me or any other adult near her what she did in school that day.  I love the flexibility the teachers are allowed, how every student gets to work at their own pace and none of them seem overwhelmed or bored.

  • Brandy G.:  Seeing how much the ENTIRE staff, not just their specific teachers, really care for my children is a delight and the first thing I share with prospective parents!

I LOVE Kid Reports because it lets me feel connected to my children while I have to be away. It also allows me to help continue my children's growth since I'm able to discuss what they did that day and continue with the concepts presented.

  • Brie S.: I am incredibly satisfied with our overall experience with Dancing Moose. We previously attended a different Montessori for the last two years. Moving to Dancing Moose was the best move that we could have made. The level of professionalism is excellent with every staff member I come in contact with everyday. The teachers are dedicated to their work and you can tell that they truly enjoy what they do. You can see that they love each and every student. My son loves his teachers and all of his friends, the hard part is getting him to want to leave school at the end of the day, he always wants to stay and that makes my heart happy. We absolutely love Dancing Moose. Thanks for all you do, you guys do a great job.

  • Shannon C:  We feel safe, comfortable and love coming to school everyday to learn from a FANTASTIC curriculum.  We also really enjoy the homemade food and organic gardening and most of all the consistent unconditional love from each teacher with our little ones!  Thank you Dancing Moose for providing my children a great early childhood educational experience!

  • Jenna D.:  We love Dancing Moose. Our children are thriving emotionally and academically. They are comfortable, safe, and most importantly they are happy! As a parent what else can you ask for?

  • Kristin C.:  While driving to Moab for a weekend camping trip, the stars were shining bright. Completely unprompted, my daughter looked out the window and pointed out Orion’s Belt! She then proceeded to tell us all about how he is a hunter who lives in the stars. She THEN pointed out the North Star and told us how it’s used to help sailors crossing the sea know what direction to go. When we asked her how she knew all of this, she told us, “Ms Dorothy taught me that lesson!”

Words can’t describe how proud and delighted we are that our FOUR year old not only understands what a constellation is, but can recognize them in the night sky!

We want to commend you for the wonderful education you are giving our daughter. Thank you. Her future is bright, in part to the foundation you have given her these past two years in preschool.
